The big, beautiful, bill passed congress

This past week, congress passed what Donald called “the big, beautiful bill.” Elon split his alliance with Donald over this bill. Elon commented on those who support this bill. His comment was:

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!”

If this bill is so bad, why did members of congress vote for it? While vacationing this week, I had a chance to do a little research into this bill. During this time of celebrating our national birthday, and as people of faith, we must each decide for ourselves if this bill honors our nation and honors the God we serve.

From what I read on CBS news, this bill could potentially add 3.4 trillion dollars to our already high deficit. For years I have been critical of the congress continuing to vote deficit budgets. To me, that is very irresponsible. As many issues as I had with the morals of Bill, when he was president, I was pleased that he and Newt Gingrich actually passed a balanced budget in Bill’s last year as president. That was the first balanced budget that I can remember in my lifetime. I wish that we had continued with that practice.

I wonder if added such a deficit add to America’s greatness.

From listening to news broadcasts, I learned that it is estimated that Medicaid is being greatly affected by this bill. The estimate that I read is that perhaps 12 million people will lose Medicaid benefits. Most of these, of course, will be from the lower end of the economic strata. Certainly, it will not affect members of congress who are given very generous medical benefits.

I do applaud that to receive Medicaid, one must enroll in work or education. The last thing I wish is for us to create a “welfare state.” I certainly don’t wish to reward people who don’t wish to work. Yes, I wonder, if like many government programs, this bill might paint with too broad a brush and it might truly hurt those who need assistance. If that is the case, are we honoring the God that we pledge to serve.

Old Testament prophets promised destruction upon those who do not bless the poor. Jesus warned his disciples that those who do not care for the poor will never be acknowledged by Jesus at the end times. Does this bill, and the reduction of Medicaid show our countries greatness, and does it honor the God of Abraham?

According to the regulations of the Congressional Budget Office, Medicare cuts are automatically made to Medicare whenever the budget deficit is raised. According to the American Prospect, these Medicare cuts might approach half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare over the next ten years. These cuts will surely hurt the senior citizens that we know. Does this honor the America that we know? Is it in alliance with the Preamble to the Constitution that proclaims that the constitution is to “promote the general welfare?”

In watching the news reports, it is the opinion of many news analysts who believe that many Republicans supported this bill for fear that Donald would actively campaign against them if they opposed Donald. I wonder if these same people might be facing the wrath of voters when they see cuts in funding that they or their neighbors depend on. Do they fear Donald more than they fear God or the voters?

Only God will decide if these men and women of congress did right by God in voting for this bill. It will be the decision of the voters whether voting for this bill truly will help the United States continue to be a great nation.

What do you think? Will this bill help or hurt our nation? May your future votes be predicated on your opinion of this.
